QUIZ: Test YOUR Empathy Level Now!

The SCORING results for the 12 questions are given at the end.

Select one of the answers to each item as it currently applies to you.

    1. Being AUTHENTIC in one's self
(I know who I am, what I want and don't act as I am not. Everything I do represents who I am NOW. I don't feel any discomfort between my actions and how I actually feel.)
    2. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    3. SELF-ACCEPTANCE
(I love me and almost everything about me. I don't seek to change anything about me, neither do I wish to be anyone else or to seek their approval to be who I am.)
    4. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    5. LISTENING to myself
(I do pay attention to my personal needs. I do not ignore them because of guilt, regret, the need to impress others, or anything else. I come first in consideration.)
    6. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    7. UNDERSTANDING another
(I am able to enter completely into another's frame of reference by putting myself in their shoes, not being too quick to judge them, or expect them to be like me.)
    8. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    9. ACCEPTING other person
(I can accept both compliments, and criticisms, from others. I can also accept their feelings, thoughts and beliefs, which validate and affirm who they are, without expecting them to act like me. I am sensitive to another person's perceptions and do not envy another's good fortune in life.)
    10. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    11. Opening channels of COMMUNICATION
(I like to reduce artificial barriers - cultural, moral, judgemental - between myself and others in order to encourage communication, to speak to them in their terms, not mine; to make them feel comfortable interacting with me.)
    12. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible..
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    13. Being OPEN-MINDED
(I try to be open to the realities of another person, not just my own; to accept that there is diversity in life and not try to 'fix' the other person to my expectations and beliefs. I allow for new experiences.)
    14. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    15. Accepting one's INSTINCTS in actions
(I TRUST my instincts implicitly. When I am doing something which FEELS right, feels valuable and worth doing, then I KNOW it is right. I do not need any further confirmation.)
    16. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    17. Self EVALUATION and MEASUREMENT
(The only yardstick I use to measure and evaluate myself is my own. I am the best source of my worth. I can appreciate the input of others, but I do not compare myself to anyone else as I am unique.)
    18. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    19. Trusting personal EXPERIENCE
(My experience is the highest authority for me as I can never experience something in another person's way. I can only go by MY personal experience, not others. External experience represents an option, but mine is essential in interacting with others.)
    20. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    21. Acknowledging the basic POSITIVITY in others
(I tend to look for the good in others first, until shown otherwise. I believe we are all basically good people until we are hurt or circumstances change us. I don't believe that anyone is naturally evil.)
    22. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible.
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

    23. Living Life as a FLOW in process
(I believe life is an ever changing process, a journey until death, in which nothing is predictable or fixed. I do not try to control my life routinely. I expect many surprises in my lifetime and find it exciting to follow the flow of experience to unknown destinations.)
    24. Yes, all the time.
      As much as possible..
      Sometimes
      Not enough
      Hardly

Once you know your score, return to CHECK THE SCORE KEY BELOW!

    SCORE KEY:
12-19: You seem to be an arch controller. Lacking trust in life and others (you are likely to think they are all evil!), you really don't feel any empathy with them, because it is all about you and what you wish to happen. However, as life hardly ever goes to plan, you are bound to have a lot of disappoints, frustrations and failures living in that one-sided way. You would be a very pessimistic and gloomy person, one who is hard to please.

20-28: You yearn to be happy but this level is too low to make you feel proud of you. You have probably achieved a lot but you are so busy living in the past and focusing on the sad negative aspects of life, the present and your future are passing you by. You are likely to be envious of the good fortune of others, yet that only brings more disappoinment to you. You tend to judge quickly and not allow people to be themselves because you don't accept yourself either. Yet, you have to look at yourself in a positive way before you can truly empathise or accept others in an empathetic way.

29-40: You are not quite sure of who you are and so you are likely to be living a confusing and unhappy existence because you are not authentic. You tend to seek approval and do things to impress which might make you come across as mercenary or manipulative. You are so focused on your needs, you often miss that of others. And as you are not really being sensitive to them, they would find it hard to be sensitive to you too. Yet, when you feel good, you can be empathetic, though the occasions are not enough.

41-52: You are a most empathetic person, especially when things are going your way. You allow people to be themselves, but mainly when it doesn't feel too threatening to you. You are still unsure of who you are and what you want, though you would have had lots of things going right in your life. Authenticity would seem to be your main flaw - not really being yourself or being honest with your needs. Just who are you? What do you really want and will you actually find the honesty and courage to get it?

53-60: You are a very empathetic person. People and their needs come first for you. You tend to be strong, authentic, forthright, transparent and unselfish. You draw people with your empathy who are inclined to share things with you. People feel comfortable with your presence, though they might interpret your laid back style - of allowing them to be themselves - as uncaring or disinterested.
